Academic attainments are, and always will be, to the fore of our objectives in St. Mary’s College. However, we also believe firmly in the holistic enrichment and development of each of our students. The College endeavours to fulfil this objective through offering varied and rewarding extra-curricular programme. We believe that participation in extra-curricular activities helps to encourage discipline, self-esteem and teamwork. St. Mary’s has a dedicated staff who freely give of their time to encourage and coach our students, and to help them achieve their full potential.
Our extra-curricular activities include the following:
ACADEMIC
Science Quizzes, General Knowledge Quizzes, Public Speaking, Debating, Young Scientist, Educational Tours, College Yearbook, Church Celebrations, Computer Club, Student Council, Art, and Educational Competitions.
Learning should be varied and multi-faceted. We aim always to help our students to apply their class based knowledge in prestigious competitions. These efforts have been rewarded with national and international success.
My time in St. Mary’s really helped shape many aspects of my life in such a positive and meaningful way from academia, to promoting values of active citizenship, civic engagement and moral leadership. The college also played a major role in developing and nurturing my sporting abilities and the positive personal characteristics and values associated with sport

Gaelic Football, Hurling, Soccer, Basketball, Athletics and Cross-Country, Chess and Draughts, Handball, Golf, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Uni-Hockey, Orienteering, Lunch-time leagues and a Sports Day.
St. Mary’s College has long been synonymous with all that it is best in sporting endeavour and has a long and proud history of success locally, nationally and internationally.
From the outset my time in St. Mary’s was an excellent experience. The high quality of the teaching staff was conducive in allowing me to develop academically while the overall friendly atmosphere and extra-curricular activities offered by the college contributed significantly to the enjoyment factor of my time in the college

COMMUNITY AND CHARITY
Annual Christmas Charity Drive, Charity Carol Singing, Goal Jersey Day, Church Celebrations and Nursing Home Visits.
The college fosters a caring community and we feel it is very important that our students are constantly aware of their responsibilities to those in our society less well off than themselves.

The College has had a long association with the arts in Galway. Many of our past pupils now enjoy successful careers in this area.
