County cup S/F Sept 30

St.Marys 2-9 Dunmore CS 2-8

The College got out of jail with a fortuitous win over  a very game Dunmore side in Loughgeorge. This was a very sluggish performance from Marys, who were dependent on a last gasp scrambled goal from full forward Kevin Connolly to seal the result. Dunmore got off to a flying start when a mix up in the Marys defence ledto an opening goal within half a minute of the start. Playing catch up into a strong wind we managed to peg back the lead through some well taken scores, but a lot of fumbling and poor decision making enabled Dunmore to get a grip on the proceedings again and in a five minute spell before half-time they outscores Marys by 1 -2 to no reply.

That left us with a five point deficit to surmount and once the second half began impact sub Cian O’Conaire set about the task with relish, slotting over three points in quick succession. Dunmore weren’t giving up without a fight and with some excellent counter attack play they widened the gap to for points once again. Some excellent work from Shane Gallagher then saw him set up a point for Myles Upton before shooting clinically to the back of the net for the equalising score himself.

Once more, however, we let Dunmore back into the match and they soon opened up a three point lead with time ticking away. Good long range points from Upton and Fiach O’Bearra left two points between the teams with only a minute left and it was left to Connolly to secure victory following a fierce gaolmouth scramble.
